LOCATION
Located approximately 100 kilometres east of Toronto, NHH is a vibrant community hospital delivering a broad range of acute, post-acute, outpatient and diagnostic services. Directly serving a growing population of more than 60,000 residents spread across a mix of urban and rural settings, NHH directly employs approximately 750 people and relies on the additional support provided by a highly engaged and supportive network of physicians, midwives, and volunteers.
Role Overview
The Physician Recruiter will be responsible for the following deliverables:
- Lead the design, execution, and continuous improvement of OHT-N’s county-wide physician recruitment and retention strategy, with a focus on family medicine physician recruitment.
- Build and sustain relationships with medical schools, residency programs (e.g., Queen’s, NOSM, University of Ottawa), community practices, hospitals, and municipal partners to generate and nurture candidate pipelines.
- Serve as the primary contact for prospective physicians—coordinating virtual and in-person conversations, site visits, community tours, and onboarding support.
- Develop and manage targeted marketing campaigns, job postings, social-media content, and promotional materials; maintain the OHT-N physician-opportunities webpage.
- Create and update a secure recruitment database, ensuring accurate tracking of candidates, vacancies, and outreach activities; produce regular performance and KPI reports.
- Plan, attend, and represent OHT-N at provincial, national, or international career fairs/conferences annually (occasional evenings/weekends and overnight travel).
- Provide regular updates and reports to OHT-N Physician Recruitment Steering Committee and collaborate closely with municipal economic-development and hospital leadership on incentives, contracts, and community integration initiatives.
- Monitor best practices in physician recruitment, evaluate program effectiveness, and recommend innovative approaches to remain competitive in a dynamic marketplace.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Undergraduate degree in marketing, human resources, health administration, public relations, or a closely related discipline—or an equivalent combination of education and progressive experience.
- Minimum 2-3 years in recruitment, project management, healthcare administration, marketing/communications, or related fields with demonstrable success meeting tight timelines and multiple priorities.
- Solid understanding of Ontario’s healthcare and medical-education systems, including primary-care payment models and physician licensure pathways.
- Proficient with MS Office (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word), web-content management, and social-media platforms.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication, presentation, and relationship-building abilities.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving capabilities; able to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and protect confidential information.
- Valid Ontario driver’s licence, access to a reliable vehicle, and willingness to travel.
- Flexibility to attend early-morning, evening, or weekend events as needed.
ASSETS
- Experience negotiating physician contracts, incentives, or locum agreements.
- Prior work with an Ontario Health Team, primary care organization, hospital foundation, or municipal economic-development office.
- Familiarity with Northumberland County’s communities, amenities, and lifestyle—or genuine willingness to learn and promote them.
- Competence in graphic design or digital marketing tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).
- Bilingualism (English/French) or proficiency in another language common among international medical graduates.

Employment Requirements
Successful applicants are required provide a satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal reference check, that was complete less than one year from the date of hire. This requirement must be met within the first sixty (60) days of employment.
Additionally, to the above, successful applicants are also required to complete the Health Care Worker Health review process which includes providing an up-to-date immunization record to ensure compliance with the Ontario Hospital Association Communicable Diseases Surveillance Protocols within the first thirty (30) days of employment. Northumberland Hills Hospital operates a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy for all staff.
