Lead Early Childhood Educators are members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 5047 (CUPE). The collective agreement can be accessed by clicking HERE.

The Lead Early Childhood Educator (ECE) will collaborate with staff, parents, and community professionals to create a welcoming environment that supports early learning. They will apply their knowledge of early childhood development and best practices to foster a stimulating and responsive learning environment. Continuous observation will guide program development to meet children's interests and developmental needs. The Lead ECE will be part of the school team and report directly to the Supervisor of the Pre-Primary Program.

Qualifications:

  • An undergraduate degree in early childhood development or a related field, or an undergraduate degree with a two-year Early Childhood Education diploma
  • Level 3 ECE Classification
  • Recent experience (within the past 5 years) working with preschool children
  • Current First Aid Certification
  • Leadership experience in early learning is a plus
  • Training or experience in play-based learning is a plus
  • Valid Nova Scotia Driver's License is an asset

Rate of Pay:

This is a 10-month position aligned with the school calendar, including time off during Christmas, March Break, and summer. The starting annual salary is $50,391.33, paid across 12 months (August 1st to July 31st) for the 10-month school year. ECEs are paid biweekly.

For positions less than a full school year, the salary is pro-rated accordingly.

Hours of Work:

Lead ECEs work 7.5 hours daily (including a ½ hour unpaid lunch and two 15-minute paid breaks), Monday through Friday. Candidates are encouraged to review the Educators' Guide to Nova Scotia's Early Learning Curriculum Framework prior to the interview - nselcfeducatorsguide.pdf.
