Job description

Work Location : Sudbury Area, Ontario

As a Construction Miner you will construct, install, maintain, and repair structures within a mining environment. You shall follow job procedures and all safety regulations to perform assigned construction tasks. The incumbent must possess strong team building skills while promoting SCRs safety-first culture.

The following is a list of duties relating to these positions. These may be adjusted by your supervisor when required by the project. Your safety will always be SCRs priority with all assigned tasks :

Key Responsibilities

Follow all established policies, procedures, and best practices as well as industry specific regulations

Always be physically and mentally fit for work

  • Complete and document a daily inspection of the workplace and complete a Front-Line Risk Assessment (FLRA) card before each shift
  • Ensure you have reviewed, understood, and signed off on all Work Procedures, PHRs or JHAs covering the work scheduled for your shift
  • Have good working knowledge of various underground construction activities including formwork, reinforcing rebar, concrete work, structural steelwork, piping, shotcreting, construction drilling with stopper, jackleg and plugger, ventilation installation, barricade installation, working at heights, proper rigging, equipment maintenance, use of laser measuring devices, etc.
  • Operate underground mining equipment including but not limited to forklifts, mancarriers, scissor trucks, etc.
  • Utilize and follow all Safety Systems specified within the SCR / Client Safety Management Systems
  • Report any safety issue or vehicle / material damage to your supervisor immediately
  • Work closely and cooperatively with your coworkers and supervisor to complete the shift line-up in a safe and professional manner
  • Stop and correct safety issues immediately if possible or barricade area and report conditions to your supervisor
  • Attend daily shift line-up / safety meetings and call in prior to shift if you cannot make it to work
  • Assist your supervisor in planning / scheduling work, materials, and services
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and efficient workplace

Qualifications and Skills

Minimum Education : High school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Trade certification in carpentry also considered an asset. Additional qualifications such as Confined Space Certificate, Forklift Certification and Working at Heights may be required.

Minimum Experience : Three to five years of experience in mine construction and related areas.

Required MTCU module 770010 Basic Underground Common Core Modules U0000, U0001, U0002, U0012 (required) + any additional Modules an asset.

Ability to understand and follow instructions

Exhibit a high attention to detail and high work / quality standards

Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently

  • Able to read and understand construction blueprints and scopes of work would be considered an asset

Positive attitude with the ability to work collaboratively within a team

  • Able to undergo pre-employment testing as a condition of employment
  • Willingness to work at any of the underground mine sites where SCR is working
  • Compensation for this position will range between $35.00 / hr to $50.00 / hr (Based on hands-on experience, qualifications and / or leadership experience)
