Job description

An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers students a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. Although each NVA hospital is unique, they share common qualities: a supportive environment, a commitment to excellent medicine, and a focus on providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.

This externship takes place at a small animal general practice located in Midhurst, ON. Students will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain experience in:

  1. Gathering patient histories
  2. Performing physical exams
  3. Creating treatment plans
  4. Diagnostics and dentistry services
  5. Observing, assisting, or performing surgical procedures
  6. Medical management of patients

In addition to clinical skills, externs will have opportunities to practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients. The externship duration ranges from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. Veterinary students in their 4th or clinical year are encouraged to apply.
