Heartwood Centre for Women (Heartwood) is a 30-inpatient bed, trauma-informed, integrated treatment facility for women (19+), including members of Two-Spirit and gender-diverse communities, across B.C, who struggle with severe substance use and mental health challenges. What you'll do
  1. Plan, implement, and evaluate goal-oriented plans for assigned patients, integrating recreation concepts, and document assessment information, goals, interventions, statistics, and progress notes.
  2. Plan, initiate, and provide opportunities that foster participation in leisure activities based on the client's functional ability and development.
  3. Observe, record, and report relevant information related to the client as it pertains to recreation, collaborating with other health care professionals.
  4. Work with members of the health care team and communicate issues related to recreation by participating in interdisciplinary team conferences, patient rounds, case discussions, and training sessions.
  5. Plan appropriate recreation outings in the community for clients of the program.
  6. Provide guidance and support to Recreation Workers, students, and volunteers as assigned.
  7. Collaborate with other department members in developing, preparing, and presenting education and training materials.
What you bring
Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation from a recognized post-secondary program.
  2. Eligible for membership in the British Columbia Therapeutic Recreation Association (BCTRA).
  3. Three years of recent related experience working in a substance use and mental health program.
  4. Valid Class IV B.C. Driver's Licence and access to a vehicle.
  5. Valid CPR Certificate.
  6. Knowledge of the impacts of settler colonialism and systemic racism on Indigenous Peoples within social and health contexts, and a commitment to anti-racism and cultural safety.
Core Competencies
  • Understanding of Indigenous-specific racism and systemic racism, with demonstrated leadership in promoting inclusivity and cultural safety.
  • Knowledge of social, economic, political realities affecting Indigenous Peoples and other equity-deserving groups, and familiarity with relevant legislative commitments.
Skills & Knowledge
  • Knowledge of evidence-based Recreation Therapy practices related to health issues and treatment.
  • Understanding of therapeutic recreation theories, leisure, social psychology, and current trends.
  • Experience with trauma-informed and culturally safe care.
  • Commitment to ongoing learning about Indigenous health issues, cultural safety, and DEI principles.

Wage: $42.27 - $52.81 per hour

Location: 4500 Oak Street, Vancouver, BC

Hours: Wednesday/Thursday/Saturday 10:07-20:03; Friday 09:07-19:30
