The Canadian Red Cross (Red Cross) – one of the most inspirational not-for-profit organizations on this planet and an awardee on the Forbes list of Canada’s Best Employers 2024 - is seeking a Regional Coordinator - Indigenous Community Connector to join its team.

In this role, you will :

  • Facilitate community mobilization while following cultural protocols, traditions, and practices to support the community and strengthen approaches to wellness and safety.
  • Provide technical and cultural support to the Canadian Red Cross Team, ensuring engagement with MCFN and other communities along the James Bay Coast is aligned with commitments within the Canadian Red Cross Indigenous Peoples Framework and Community Engagement Strategy.
  • Build and maintain relationships with members of communities and the Canadian Red Cross to support achievement of project objectives in ways that promote local leadership action and capacity.
  • Organize community-based activities such as focus group discussions, sharing circles, and training sessions as identified by communities.
  • Communicate information regarding project and organizational challenges.
  • Contribute to the timely completion of administrative processes and project management tasks relevant to the communications objectives of this project.

  • An individual who is known, respected, and who role models a healthy lifestyle in the community and who is rooted in traditional cultural practices.
  • The ideal candidate has lived and / or has professional experience with First Nations, Inuit, and / or Métis Nations or communities.
  • Active in broader Indigenous networks and has an enduring commitment to sharing and advancing knowledge derived through Indigenous knowledge systems, including balancing Western and Indigenous world views.
  • The official languages recognized within the Canadian Red Cross are English and French; however, demonstrated skills and ability to communicate in one or multiple Indigenous language(s) or ability to communicate and adapt within Indigenous protocols is highly desirable.
  • A strong understanding of cultural and communications protocols.
  • Demonstrated commitment to principles of gender equality, diversity, and inclusion as well as child protection.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to build key relationships and mobilize community members.
  • Ability to identify strengths within the community and utilize those strengths to support the project goals.
  • Ability to apply cultural teachings and practices within the project.
  • Possess computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite programs.
  • Create connections with neighboring communities to build relationships as well as provide support as needed.
  • Understanding of strengths, challenges, and safety risks within communities is considered an asset.
  • Readiness to be deployed for support to the Emergency Operations Team when needed is considered an asset.
  • Post-secondary education is considered an asset.

Working Conditions :

  • The majority of the work will be performed in a clean and comfortable environment.
  • Travel throughout the assigned geography will be required.
  • May be deployed to support communities during evacuations.
  • May include moderate to long hours sitting and using computers and office equipment.
  • May be required to lift supplies and materials from time to time up to 18 kg.
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours as needed for community events.
