POSITION SUMMARY
The Respiratory Rehabilitation Day Program (RRDP) is an education and exercise program that promotes patient self-management skills for chronic respiratory diseases. This is a hospital-based program for outpatients. The main program stream is a 10-week long day program where patients have two exercise classes and two education classes per week. Generally twelve patients are enrolled in the program starting as six patients starting every five weeks in the full program with additional patients participating in an alternate program stream. The program is currently running in a hybrid model offering both in-person and virtual exercise sessions. Within this Program there is increasing interest in the coexisting challenges of physical and mental health in patients with chronic respiratory conditions.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from an APA or CPA accredited graduate program (or equivalent)
• Registered, or eligible for registration, through the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario with identified competencies in: i) rehabilitation psychology or health psychology, and ii) clinical psychology with adults. Competencies working with seniors an asset.
• Demonstrated compliance with the ethical and professional practice standards of the profession
• Demonstrated skills and experience in treatment, assessment, and research in relevant areas of practice
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team, to collaborate with community resources and services, and to advocate for the needs of clients
• Knowledge and proficiency in clinical research design and analysis
• Demonstrated interpersonal and supervisor skills required for the supervision of students, interns, residents, psychometrists, staff from other healthcare disciplines, and psychologists and/or psychological associates registered for supervised practice by the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario
• Advanced oral and written communication skills required for assessment reports, scholarly presentations, and scholarly publications
• Strong knowledge and experience working with patients living with serious and complex medical conditions
• Knowledge and experience working with patients with chronic respiratory conditions is an asset
• Experience delivering CBT and other therapeutic modalities (e.g. ACT, Mindfulness, DBT) in both individual and group settings
• Applies for and maintains a McMaster University faculty appointment
• Participates in the administration of the Clinical Psychology Residency Program at St. Joseph's Healthcare
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Conduct targeted clinical consultations providing brief reports and recommendations for treatment purposes
• Provide individual and group patient cognitive behavioural therapy and education
• Provide education and support to patient’s families and caregivers
• Provide clinical supervision to master’s and doctoral level candidates
• Supervising, consulting with, and training professional staff
• Participate in team rounds and provide information and education to the multidisciplinary teams to support patient care
• Participate in program development and research activities
• Provide timely and relevant clinical documentation
• Pursue continuous professional development
