Job Summary

The primary role of the Planning/Scheduling Lead is to provide expertise in the area of planning/scheduling and schedule analysis; earned value management and construction activities in support of a construction program. This is a role as a key member of the project execution team on a complex underground constructions scope. This entails support and work in conjunction with members of the Estimating and Project Control departments, and other departments as required; integrated with estimating and project control workflows.

General

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in project decisions regarding cost and scheduling
  • Oversee project planners and ensure site coordination with progress tracking systems
  • Conduct field tours on occasion to ensure accurate reporting of schedule
  • Combine information from all disciplines into an integrated schedule. Analyze data and report progress of work, including critical path, earned value, and any issues that affect the planned schedule, updating various project controls reports as required (Bar Charts, S-curves, Productivity, Manpower histogram, Commodity curves, etc.)
  • Maintain project schedule and identifies and records the impact of work performed and not performed as scheduled. Including resource loading / levelling, & what-if analysis’
  • Understand changes in sequence & paths of construction, impact of delays. Provide input to discipline leads of priority work streams & timelines necessary to meet project needs & completion dates
  • Develop corrective action plans & mitigation strategies based on schedule & critical path analysis
  • Assemble cost and schedule proposals for change order work
  • Assist in maintaining project job costs, forecasting, revenue, and cash flows
  • Assist in developing payment applications to the client
  • Track critical activities and changes to the critical path impacting the project.

Education

QUALIFICATIONS

Required: Post-Secondary Education (mathematical and/or scientific)

Preferred: Technical/Scientific Degree, Technical Diploma or relevant equivalent

Work Experience

Required: 5+ years related to scheduling using Primavera P6 software and project controls reporting tools.

Preferred: 5+ years in senior planning role in underground mining or construction industry

  • The ability to work with numbers and see how various factors influence and interact with each other.
  • Excellent communication skills (reading & comprehending, listening, writing and speaking).
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Familiarity (will grow with experience) with a wide range of mining and construction related work (not necessarily an “expert”)
  • Confidence to question and to contribute to a team.
  • Self-motivation.
  • Willingness to work overtime when necessary
  • Common sense and be inclined to regularly test results for flaws/errors. Be able to see where results do not make sense (an ability that should develop with increasing experience).
