The Environmental Project Lead works closely with CORE’s Environmental Leadership Team, playing a key role in the growth and success of the Environmental Division. The role involves meeting specific role expectations as outlined.
The Work
Overview
- Managing or co-managing pipeline, municipal, solar, and public infrastructure projects.
- Preparing high-quality scientific and technical reports, including regulatory submissions such as:
- Wildlife surveys (breeding bird, migration, amphibian, raptor, species at risk)
- Wildlife mitigation plans
- Environmental Risk Assessments
- Biophysical Impact Assessments
- Wetlands Assessments
- Fish Habitat Assessments
- Hydrological Assessments
- Assessing and managing potential risks and liabilities related to projects.
- Assisting with the development of internal processes, including environmental/regulatory scoping tools, checklists, and templates.
- Identifying opportunities to improve clients' regulatory compliance outcomes.
- Preparing project budgets, scopes of work, and proposals.
Spatial Data Interpretation / Analyzing
- Understanding land survey systems in Western Canada.
- Using GIS/mapping platforms to analyze datasets.
- Knowing which datasets to utilize for interpretation.
- Reading and understanding survey/engineering plans.
Regulatory Requirements
- Knowing applicable directives and acts.
- Interpreting regulatory documents and applying them to projects.
- Identifying non-compliance and suggesting mitigation.
- Creating and submitting permits.
- Communicating with regulators as needed.
Technical Writing
- Producing clear, concise, and accurate technical content.
- Using appropriate language for technical and regulatory documents.
- Researching and interpreting complex technical information.
- Ensuring accuracy and clarity in reports.
- Proficient with relevant software, including GIS tools.
- Reviewing reports for consistency and correctness.
- Managing time effectively to meet deadlines.
Requirements
- Experience with BC and Alberta regulatory systems (e.g., BCER, MEP, AUC, AER, EPA).
- Technical aptitude for environmental consulting and regulatory solutions.
- 10+ years of relevant experience.
- Professional Biologist designation or ability to obtain within 6 months (e.g., P. Bio., R.P. Bio).
