Faculty Member, Biostatistics in Population, Public, Clinical Health, Health Services Research

Applications are invited from qualified individuals for a tenure-track biostatistics faculty position at the assistant professor level in the Department of Community Health and Epidemiology, College of Medicine. The research area focuses on biostatistical methods for population and public health, clinical, or health services research.

Other responsibilities include serving as the director of the Clinical Research Support Unit (CRSU), graduate-level teaching and supervision of graduate students and post-doctoral research projects within the department, and in a biostatistics graduate program jointly offered with the Department of Math and Statistics and the School of Public Health. Participation in relevant administrative activities, committee work, and public and professional service appropriate to rank are also expected.

The Department

The Department of Community Health and Epidemiology is a dynamic academic department comprising 18 faculty and 34 associates and adjuncts. We have active graduate programs and contribute significantly to undergraduate education of medical and health sciences students, as well as postgraduate education through the Public Health and Preventive Medicine Residency Program.

The CRSU, housed within the department, offers comprehensive research support to faculty, residents, students, and researchers within the College of Medicine. Support includes study design, sample size/power calculation, data management, analysis, and manuscript revision, with some qualitative research support available. The CRSU also offers workshops and short courses on software such as SAS and NVivo to support data analysis and research data management.

Current research strengths include child health, Indigenous peoples’ health, global health, environmental health, social epidemiology, health inequities, biostatistical applications to chronic disease, public health practice, and knowledge exchange. The department emphasizes health equity, social justice, and community engagement, maintaining strong partnerships with community organizations, government agencies, and research units like the Saskatchewan Population Health Research and Evaluation Unit, the Public Health Observatory, the Canadian Centre for Rural and Agricultural Health, and the Community-University Institute for Social Research.

The College of Medicine

The College is the provincial medical school with 400 medical students, 450 residents, and over 1800 faculty members. Its vision is to lead in improving health and well-being locally and globally. The mission focuses on innovative, interdisciplinary research and education, leadership, community engagement, and developing culturally competent clinicians and scientists, with a focus on partnerships with Indigenous communities.

The University of Saskatchewan, located on Treaty 6 Territory and the Homeland of the Métis in Saskatoon, offers a vibrant community with a diverse economy, arts, and leisure activities. The university is committed to diversity and inclusion, fostering an environment where all members can thrive.

Qualifications

Applicants should hold a PhD in Biostatistics or a related discipline. Preference is given to those with experience in Machine Learning, Bayesian Statistics, Artificial Intelligence, or Longitudinal Data Analysis. Post-doctoral experience in biostatistical applications relevant to population health, clinical, or health services research is desirable. A strong research record demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications, potential for external funding, and development of statistical libraries or packages is expected. Candidates must possess excellent interpersonal, leadership, communication, and partnership-building skills.

The salary range for the Assistant Professor position is $99,945 to $120,099, complemented by a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, pension, insurance, and wellness programs.
