Position Overview

Directly accountable to the Manager, Health Services, the Registered Nurse provides registered nursing services for patient/residents, including those with complex and unpredictable health needs. These services include: independent nursing services, administration of prescribed medical treatments, a leadership role within the health care team, and facilitating coordination of patient/resident care and discharge. May be responsible for directing other nurses, students, health care aides, and support staff in patient/resident care. Collaborates with physicians and professional health staff in the facility and community. The Registered Nurse demonstrates a commitment to the Mission, Vision, Values, goals, and objectives of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority and Deer Lodge Centre. Performs all duties in accordance with established health and safety regulations, policies, and procedures (e.g., using personal protective equipment as per safe work procedures). Notifies managers or supervisors of all occurrences, injuries, illnesses, or safety concerns that could harm individuals or the environment.

Experience
  • Experience with chronic illness, geriatrics, and complex continuing care.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Graduate of an approved Registered Nursing educational program.
  • Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) certification preferred.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Maintain active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba.
  • Participation in professional associations such as the Association of Regulated Nurses of Manitoba (ARNM) is preferred.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Support and demonstrate knowledge of:
    • The vision, values, goals, and objectives of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority and Deer Lodge Centre.
    • The Centre's Mission Statement, Residents Bill of Rights, and Code of Conduct.
    • Relevant legislations like PHIA, WHMIS, and Universal Precautions.
    • College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba Standards of Practice.
    • Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics.
    • Scope of practice under the Regulated Health Professions Act.
    • Centre's policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines.
    • Nursing care principles related to geriatrics and complex care.
    • Roles and responsibilities within the healthcare team.
    • Principles of delegation.
  • Ability to prioritize, delegate, respond to demands, and adapt quickly.
  • Strong communication skills, confidentiality, and critical thinking.
Physical Requirements
  • Moderate to heavy physical effort required.

This term position may end earlier as outlined in your collective agreement.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check, and Adult Abuse Registry Check. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. Checks are considered current if obtained within six months prior to employment start date.

Please note that employees cannot hold multiple positions across the WRHA that total more than 1.0 EFT. The WRHA includes multiple sites and services.
