The Role: As a transport truck driver, the candidate will transport, remove, deliver, and collect various liquid and solid hazardous wastes from various sites. The candidate will be required to load and unload trucks and also have the ability to operate a variety of truck and equipment including vacuum trucks, box trucks, tractor-trailers and any other equipment that fits their license on site if necessary.

Education:
• Secondary (high) school graduation certificate

Experience:
• 1 year or more of experience operating transport trucks to collect liquid and solid hazardous wastes
• Commercial driver’s license; AZ or DZ class license

On site:
• Work must be completed at the physical location. There is no option to work remotely.

General Tasks:

  1. Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions, using computer equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) equipment, or other navigation devices, to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions.
  2. Coach colleagues on new methods or work techniques.
  3. Professionalism in customer service.
  4. Load and unload goods.
  5. Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials.
  6. Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment.
  7. Perform brake adjustments.
  8. Perform pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspection and oversee all aspects of vehicle.
  9. Perform preventive maintenance.
  10. Receive and relay information to central dispatch.
  11. Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption.
  12. Tarping and ensuring safety and security of cargo.

Specific Tasks:

  1. Operate Vacuum/Hydrovac Truck, Box Truck or Tractor Trailer, Pick-up truck, and utility trailer.
  2. Collection of hazardous and non-hazardous goods from various sites and performing lab packing and de-packing duties.
  3. Administer bills of lading after collection from each site.
  4. Provide feedback to supervisor regarding customer problems, mechanical problems, or delivery problems.
  5. Bulk smaller quantities of chemicals into larger containers in a controlled and safe manner ensuring compatibility.
  6. Assist with the coding and shipments of Lab-Pack materials.
  7. Assist plant operations as required.
  8. Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from the loading crew as needed.
  9. Check that vehicle position is correct and that any special loading equipment is properly positioned while loading and unloading of trucks.
  10. Ensure that any debris caused by the loading/unloading of the truck is cleaned up.
  11. Perform periodic inspections before, during, and after delivery to ensure that the load is properly fastened down and is secure.
  12. Oversee cargo handling and secure loads, including equipment preparation, application of safe practices, and compliance with applicable Acts and regulations.
  13. Comply with applicable legislation including safe operation, carriage of goods, driver’s hours of service, occupational health and safety, transportation of dangerous goods, customs and immigration and weights and dimensions.
  14. Perform pre-trip, en-route and post-trip inspection and oversee all aspects of vehicle such as condition of equipment, roadworthiness, and emergency equipment is in good working order.
  15. Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles.
  16. Power washing and High-Pressure Water blasting as required.
  17. Line snaking, Drain and Pipe Inspections as required.
  18. Maintain cleanliness of Tools and Equipment and Industrial Services Shop.
  19. Industrial cleaning of chemical non-hazardous and hazardous waste.
  20. Maintain a clean appearance of trucks at all times.

Credentials (certificates, licences, memberships, courses, etc.):
• AZ or DZ class license.

Security and Safety:
• Driver’s validity licence check.
• Driving record check (abstract).

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities:
• Overtime required.
• Physically demanding.
• Sitting.
• Combination of sitting, standing, walking.
• Hand-eye co-ordination.
• Bending, crouching, kneeling.

Weight Handling:
• More than 45 kg (100 lbs).

Own Tools/Equipment:
• Steel-toed safety boots.
