Job Description
Take on the responsibility of a community leader with Canada Post. The Postmaster, reporting to the Superintendent/Local Area Manager, is responsible for promoting and selling postal products and services to the public and businesses in the community. As Postmaster, you will be the face of the Post Office in your community service area, supervising staff and ensuring that Canada Post demonstrates an energetic customer focus and commitment to the community in an environment of multiple priorities.
Job Responsibilities
  • Liaise with the local community regarding Canada Post services and products
  • Sell and promote postal products and services to the public and businesses
  • Provide suitable premises in a central location within the community within 30 days if selected
  • Administer the post office to meet retail hours and delivery expectations
  • Manage postal revenue, assets, and values
  • Maintain records and prepare reports
  • Assist with effective management of mail delivery routes
Additional Responsibilities
  • Sort mail to postal boxes if required
  • Supervise staff if needed
  • Keep the post office neat, presentable, and maintain cleanliness according to Canada Post standards
  • Operate the post office efficiently and diligently
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, with experience in business administration preferred
  • Premises must be owned or leased, suitable, central, and barrier-free, available one month prior to hire
  • Experience in customer service, retail, or similar environment, including sales and cash handling
  • Knowledge of postal regulations, procedures, and mail processing
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs, pushing/pulling boxes, sorting mail, and standing for extended periods
Premises Requirements
  • Premises must be accessible to persons with disabilities and approved at least one month before hire
  • Postmasters are responsible for rent, utilities, maintenance, snow removal, taxes, and insurance
  • Appointments are subject to Canada Post Act conditions
  • Service hours are determined by Canada Post and may change
Additional Information
  • Priority transfer consideration for CPAA members, especially in the posted Area of Competition
  • Employees with continuous employment in CPAA may apply per the Collective Agreement
Compensation and Allowances
  • Total hours: 21 per week
  • Leasing allowance: $1,708/year for operating costs
  • Additional annual allowance may be available for premises costs
