We are currently seeking a talented individual to join the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Secondary School team. St. Francis School provides a faith-based, Roman Catholic education within the public school system of Yukon Education. Our school sits on the traditional territory of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and Ta’an Kwachan Council within Whitehorse, Yukon. SFACS is an 8-12 school with approximately 460 students, serving a diverse cultural population. Our educational professionals facilitate academic excellence, model lifelong learning, and assist students in developing a relationship with Jesus and an appreciation of self and others. The uniqueness of each child is celebrated. This 1.0 FTE permanent position includes a 0.5 FTE administrative role and a 0.5 FTE teaching role: Vice Principal and Math Teacher.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume how you meet the following qualifications and experience.
  • Possession of, or coursework towards, a Master’s Degree in Education or equivalent in educational administration, secondary curriculum, or related areas.
  • Recent experience in educational leadership in a secondary school setting.
  • Experience in assessing and responding to student needs in social/emotional domains, life skills, development, behavior support, threat assessment, and crisis intervention.
  • Experience guiding student behavior using a restorative approach as set out in Yukon Education policy documents.
  • Coursework and/or demonstration of experience, understanding, and knowledge of Catholic theology and philosophy of Catholic education.
  • Candidates must fulfill the Catholic eligibility requirements for Catholic Schools.

  • Ability to provide strong faith leadership to students and staff through ongoing faith formation and opportunities to infuse faith into curriculum and pedagogy; involvement in the broader Catholic community.
  • Commitment to the Catholic mission and values to foster a faith-based learning environment.
  • Ability to integrate Catholic teachings throughout the curriculum; understanding of secondary and Catholic curricula in Yukon.
  • Ability to plan and assist in Roman Catholic liturgies.
  • Knowledge of, sensitivity to, and willingness to incorporate Yukon First Nations ways of knowing, doing, and being to support a culturally diverse student population.
  • Commitment to high academic standards, literacy and numeracy programs, and innovative learning strategies including social/emotional learning and experiential learning.
  • Ability to coach staff for teaching excellence and facilitate professional development focused on student learning and assessment.
  • Willingness to participate as an administrative team member and demonstrate strong interpersonal and team-building skills.
  • Proven organizational and decision-making skills, including effective listening, mediating diverse views, and following through on decisions.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, collaboration with staff and parents.
  • Recent experience teaching in a Catholic environment with diverse curriculum needs.
  • Ability to build respectful relationships with students, staff, parents, and community stakeholders.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Criminal Record / RCMP Check with Vulnerable Sector, to be provided before the first day of employment, dated no more than 3 months prior to your start date.
  • Yukon Teacher Certification; learn about the certification process.
  • Yukon First Nations 101, to be completed at your first opportunity.

Additional Information:

  • Candidates without a valid teaching certificate may be granted a letter of permission as a teacher upon request, in accordance with the Education Act.
  • Preference will be given to practicing members of the Roman Catholic Church, with current Roman Catholic baptismal certificates included in the application.
