We are currently hiring a Cook for our culinary team.

As a Cook in our partnered facilities, you will be essential in meeting residents' nutritional needs with delicious, wholesome meals. Your role involves collaborating with the dietary team to plan menus, prepare meals, and maintain a clean, safe kitchen environment.

Requirements:

  • Experience working in a long-term care facility is mandatory.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, and cook nutritious meals according to dietary requirements and menu plans, ensuring standards are met.
  • Serve meals at appropriate temperatures and times.
  • Assist in serving meals, respecting residents' food preferences.
  • Follow all food safety and sanitation guidelines, including proper food storage and handling.
  • Work with dietary staff to develop menus that meet nutritional needs and preferences.
  • Help control food costs, waste, and manage ordering with the Food and Nutrition Manager.
  • Monitor food inventory and coordinate supply orders.
  • Ensure compliance with Public Health and Ministry of Long-Term Care requirements.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, including equipment and utensils.
  • Assist with special events and catering as needed.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
  • Chef/Cook Certification from a recognized community college, preferably Red Seal.
  • Valid Food Handler's Certificate, kept up to date.
  • Experience in a long-term care setting or with seniors is preferred; experience in institutional, healthcare, restaurant, or hospitality cooking is acceptable.
  • Vulnerable Sector Check within the last 6 months.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination per Ontario Ministry of Long-Term Care policies.

Skills:

  • Genuine interest in working with elderly populations and sensitivity to their needs.
  • Ability to handle physical tasks such as bending, standing, lifting, working in varied temperatures, and working safely following established procedures.
  • Ability to multi-task and complete routines within scheduled times.
  • Flexibility and adaptability within a team environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English (oral and written).
