The South Shore Regional Centre for Education (SSRCE) practices a culturally responsive pedagogy approach to provide an inclusive, diverse, equitable, safe, and healthy education that supports both personal and academic success for the 59,000 residents of Lunenburg and Queens Counties. This area covers 5,250 square kilometres and includes 23 schools.

Description:

The Elementary Teacher is responsible for teaching and supporting students within the South Shore Regional Centre for Education. The Teacher will work within the Inclusive Education Policy framework by participating in individualized program planning with school staff and families to maximize learning experiences for students.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Valid Nova Scotia Teacher Certification
  • Bachelor of Education
  • University education in Music or a minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching at least 50% Grade P-4 Music within the last seven (7) years, with positive performance appraisals and/or references

Desired Qualifications and Experience:

  • Professional development in Music
  • Experience teaching Music
  • Excellent communication (written, oral, electronic), problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to collaborate with school and inter-agency teams for early intervention strategies, service coordination, problem-solving, and program planning
  • Proven ability to work as part of school program planning and multidisciplinary teams
  • Knowledge and application of culturally responsive pedagogy
  • Current knowledge of developmental trauma and its impact on learning, communication, and social engagement
  • Willingness to engage in continuing education and professional development
  • Ability to develop, implement, and monitor individualized programs and teaching strategies based on students' needs
  • Maintain and promote confidentiality as standard practice
  • Experience in planning and developing training related to students with behaviors of concern
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse cultural and racial backgrounds
  • Valuing others' voices and contributions while remaining open to constructive criticism
