SUBSTITUTE TEACHING STAFF for the 2024-2025 School Year
Recruiting for all zones: Lobstick, Edson, Hinton, Jasper and Grande Cache, Alberta
The Grande Yellowhead Public School Division is looking for Substitute Teachers dedicated to providing a quality instruction and education to students in the absence of the regular teacher. Substitute teachers are an integral part of the collaborative school team.
Substitute Teacher Responsibilities
- maintain a safe and healthy learning environment for the students
- promote continued learning
- follow lesson plans created by the teacher
- if necessary, create his/her own lesson plans in accordance with the Alberta Education Programs of Study and the absent teacher’s unit plans and/or long range plans.
- ensure that the classroom is running smoothly
- clear, concise communication with the absent teacher and school principal
- adhere to the same roles and responsibilities as any other classroom teacher as defined by the Education Act and the Teaching Profession Act.
- maintain confidentiality
- practice professionalism with all students, staff, administration, parents and public
- is aware of GYPSD policies and administrative procedures
Additional Responsibilities May Include
- preparing educational materials
- marking assignments or classwork
- assigning classwork and homework
- recess or lunch supervision duties
General Qualifications
- Bachelor of Education;
- Valid Alberta Teaching License;
- Excellent classroom management;
- Ability to work in a multi-grade classroom is considered an asset.
Substitute teachers are paid $212 per day and $106 per half day. Substitute teachers are also eligible to receive up to $2,500 per year for professional development as per .

THE DIVISION
Grande Yellowhead Public School Division (GYPSD) stretches from Jasper National Park, east to Evansburg, south of Cadomin, and northwest to Grande Cache. The jurisdiction includes 17 schools, 5 Learning Connection Centres, approximately 5000 students and 600 staff. The Division is governed by seven elected Trustees.
GYPSD schools offer a broad range of JK-12 programs. Principals focus on strong instructional leadership using generative dialogue to support teacher growth and supervision.
The Division is noted for its commitment to strong literacy practices infused across the curriculum, inclusive education and for its innovative technology programs.
