Position Description Summary :

Accumulate, analyze, and report on a variety of financial, operational, and / or technical data used in the decision-making process to develop profitable pricing strategies in the Ocean Freight Industry. Perform analysis to determine impacts on company performance from your specific functional area. Identify and implement projects that improve or automate current processes. Monitor competitive activity and identify customer needs.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Create and / or update quotations using service contracts, offers from Carriers / Vendors, and / or by following Company’s rate guidelines.
  • Develop an understanding of pricing models and principles used for pricing decisions and business propositions.
  • Conduct rate and cost reviews, analysis, and P&L sheets, supporting intra- and inter-departmental needs.
  • Assist with procurement involving direct or indirect negotiations with Carriers / Vendors.
  • Utilize and maintain reporting / data integrity for internal and external reporting needs.
  • Maintain centralized Revenue Management systems / databases to ensure timely and accurate information.
  • Prepare data for uploading into the Company’s Pricing System(s).
  • Upload, update, and maintain service providers’ contract rates and surcharges into the Company’s System(s).
  • Audit the Pricing System(s) for accuracy and extract information for management reports.
  • Generate and maintain rate summary lists, commodity lists, surcharge tables.
  • Maintain historical data and reports, including rates, surcharges, and shipment volumes.
  • Assist in developing financial tools for improved customer profitability assessment and decision-making.
  • Participate in projects to support yield improvement and revenue growth.
  • Handle special projects, analysis reports, and projections as requested by management.
  • Occasionally serve as backup for other team members within the Trade Department.

Knowledge and Skills

Business Skills :

Excellent communication skills—oral and written. Proficient with Microsoft Excel at a “Power User Level,” with the ability to learn other applications. Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.

Special Knowledge :

Minimum 1-3 years of ocean freight industry experience, with ocean freight pricing experience preferred. Knowledge of ocean ports and hubs, especially in Asia and North America. Stay updated with industry standards and market conditions. Basic programming skills (VBA, Python) and Power BI Query are assets.

Soft Skills :

Detail-oriented, analytical, and able to focus for extended periods. Excellent organizational skills and ability to meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
