Job Description

You will join a team in DBS Digital, Information and Technology (DIT) responsible for administering and supporting Oracle databases across both on-premise infrastructure and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). You will play a key role in helping the team transition from on-premise to cloud-native services, supporting Oracle Base Database Service (OBDS) and Autonomous Databases.

As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer, you will carry out duties as defined by the Government Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) framework. You will build, administer, support and maintain solutions as directed and according to departmental policy. You will ensure services are integrated, delivered and operated as required, working closely with third parties and technical architects. You will also provide input into technology road-maps, project planning, and service improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and support Oracle databases across on-premise and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) environments, ensuring availability, security and performance
  • Administer Oracle Base Database Service (OBDS) and Autonomous Databases, managing configuration, patching, upgrades and backup strategies
  • Deliver regular patching and upgrade activities for on-prem Oracle databases
  • Support CivHR development and administration teams with database access, password resets, storage requests and incident resolution
  • Manage disaster recovery planning, backup testing and high availability configurations across on-prem and cloud databases
  • Contribute to the administration and support of wider cloud and infrastructure services, including compute, storage, networking, monitoring and security operations
  • Collaborate with technical architects, engineers and third-party suppliers to deliver integrated, reliable infrastructure services
  • Automate routine operational tasks where appropriate, supporting continuous improvement in database and infrastructure management

You will have an interest in technology and proactively find opportunities to improve the way DBS DIT meets the needs of its users.
