Job description

At Nordstrom, we strive for engineering excellence, and the Industrial Engineer 2, Supply Chain contributes by applying industrial engineering disciplines to established and new processes, systems, and equipment. This person will partner with Supply Chain Operations leadership and associates within fulfillment centers (FCs) and Distribution Centers (DCs), providing creative solutions for process improvement and automation to simplify workflows and operations.

A day in the life

  1. Collects data and performs complex data analysis to understand current conditions, driving continuous improvement, capacity analysis, cost/benefit analysis, and change initiatives.
  2. Leverages continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean Six Sigma) to optimize and lead supply chain solutions for current and future operations.
  3. Performs time and motion studies, with experience in predetermined time systems (e.g., MOST, MSD, MTM), indirect time, and PF&D, detecting gaps between observed times and labor standards to improve productivity.
  4. Leads Standard Work efforts in collaboration with operations and continuous improvement teams.
  5. Develops knowledge of distribution and fulfillment best practices and engineering standards, applying them in solutions deployment.
  6. Creates and delivers AutoCAD layouts for space planning and process design.
  7. Analyzes and evaluates methods for optimal operations, outlining process, equipment, and system design alternatives.
  8. Works with technical documentation (architectural, mechanical, electrical, software) to assess designs and issues, with guidance.
  9. Collaborates with operations, product management, and other partners to deliver data-driven solutions.
  10. Utilizes project management methodologies for medium complexity projects.
  11. Develops skills in discrete simulation and capacity analysis.

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Prior experience with Supply Chain Distribution/Fulfillment (e-Commerce) environments is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering.
  • AutoCAD, simulation, and SQL query experience are highly desired.
  • Strong understanding of end-to-end Industrial Engineering processes and tools.
  • Effective communication skills, including interacting with senior leadership.
