What You’ll Do

This is a full-time position that carries out local blasting operations. The successful candidate will participate and learn in all facets of the drilling and blasting trade. They will work in a team environment while performing all duties safely, while strictly adhering to all blasting safety regulations.

The following represents specifically what duties will be required but are not limited to:

  • Perform all blast site duties under the supervision of a blaster in charge. Blast site duties include: (Measure holes, load holes, stem holes, hookup initiation, site cleanup, inventory of products and assist to secure blast site)
  • Assist in blast design and layout of drill patterns.
  • Become familiar with the tools used in design work (GPS, Drone, Boretrack, Profilers)
  • To assist with blast site hazard assessments to ensure the blast site is a safe work environment for all involved.
  • Participate in all safety toolbox talks and general safety meetings.
  • Ensure that all equipment to be used in that operation is in good operating condition, including vehicles used for delivery of explosives products.
  • Ensure that all regulations, both federally (TDG, Explosives Act, Bulk Regulations, WHIMIS) and provincially (Blasting Safety and OH&S Regulations) are adhered to within the operation in regards to personnel workings, product storage, and product transportation.
  • Maintain an accurate and up-to-date inventory of all products (explosive and non explosive).
  • Ensuring that company policies, safe work practices, hazard analysis, and standard operating procedures are up-to-date and followed.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Minimum educational requirements: Completion of high school preferred with training and experience in related fields.
  • Willing to enroll with apprenticeship Nova Scotia for the purpose of obtaining a Provincial Blasting License
  • Basic computer skills required to be able to create blasting logs and access online training.
  • A positive professional and courteous attitude.
  • Good physical condition is required with the ability to repeatedly lift up to 25 kg.
  • A NS class 5 DL is a requirement, however a class 3, would be an asset.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is a requirement. Ability to speak and write in French would be an asset.
