Job description

Calling all experienced Accountants and/or Controllers in the Newmarket area! Our client is an interprovincial, locally respected contractor with 50 years of proven success and stability! This team is focused on high-profile institutional, commercial, and industrial construction projects and is currently looking for a Controller with 8+ years of finance experience to join their team! This position is a full-time, in-house role without the option for remote or hybrid at this time.

Requirements:
  1. CPA is required
  2. Accounting degree and/or diploma from an accredited institution strongly preferred
  3. Minimum of 8+ years’ experience in an Accounting/Controller position
  4. Intermediate Level of Excel required
  5. Jonas Software experience is a bonus (Willing to train)
  6. Strong analytical and organizational skills
Responsibilities:
  1. Plan, organize & direct the period close process including preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  2. Ensure compliance with established internal controls, including approval requirements with a keen eye toward cost control and accuracy
  3. Own and maintain process & controls documentation, including financial policies
  4. Ensure integrity of financial data and systems
  5. Ensure management of general ledger
  6. Participation in annual audit
  7. Complete and review month-end reconciliations and budget variance analyses
  8. Manage cash flow
  9. Participate in the creation of new processes to streamline cross-functional workloads and find opportunities to enhance efficiencies with existing processes
  10. Provide financial recommendations & ideas when new business initiatives are proposed
Assist as needed with:
  1. General reporting
  2. Data Entry
  3. Payroll
  4. Bank reconciliations
  5. Accounts Payable / Accounts Receivable
