Position: Residential Mortgage Underwriter, Specialized Credit

The role involves assessing all new mortgage applications, issuing mortgage commitments, and collecting required documentation to move files to the solicitor instruction stage efficiently, within established guidelines. The focus is on exercising sound lending judgment while maintaining service quality and profitability.

  1. Review received applications, verify supporting documentation for accuracy and legitimacy, and approve, decline, or refer applications for approval.
  2. Ensure approved deals close as scheduled by following up on outstanding conditions and documents.
  3. Follow up with brokers daily on mortgage commitments to maximize funding volumes.
  4. Review documentation for accuracy, with a strong emphasis on AML & ATF requirements, including income and down payment verification.
  5. Ensure compliance with company and insurer lending policies and procedures.
  6. Assist with reporting, file management, and data integrity as needed.
  7. Manage deal flow to meet deadlines and SLAs, utilizing reports to track funding pipeline.
  8. Provide high-level customer service to mortgage brokers, building strong relationships and offering underwriting expertise.
  9. Support team members and stay updated on policies and products.
  10. Develop broker relationships through meetings to improve NPS results without compromising credit quality.
Qualifications and Skills

  • 2+ years’ mortgage experience in prime and/or alternative markets.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel).
  • Post-secondary degree in a financial field preferred.
  • Knowledge of mortgage fraud risks and addressing misrepresentation concerns.
