Job description

PWTransit Canada is currently seeking casual Conventional / Custom Transit Drivers to join our team in Trail and Castlegar. Drivers will be responsible for safely transporting passengers while providing superior customer service and demonstrating strong communication skills.

This position will work on an on-call basis with future opportunities for part-time and full-time roles.

Wage : $25.64 - $30.66 per hour

Position Requirements :

  • A valid class 1 or 2 driver’s license with Air Brake endorsement
  • Driver’s abstract with no more than 3 demerit points
  • Willingness to undergo drug and alcohol screening
  • Clear criminal record
  • Must be organized, punctual and reliable
  • Possess excellent driving skills and habits
  • Ability to read maps and navigate, as well as use of onboard routing software
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Willing to work shifts, including split shifts, weekends and statutory holidays as necessary
  • Able and willing to work in both Trail and Castlegar service delivery areas
  • Physically able to assist with wheelchairs and other mobility aids

Principal Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Safely transport passengers on a number of assigned routes as well as door to door handydart custom services
  • Manage passenger behavior by quickly and effectively solving problems
  • Drive safely and responsibly and be prepared for all road and traffic conditions
  • Provide superior customer service and assist with passenger questions / inquiries
  • Professional two-way radio etiquette, pre and post trip paperwork, and compliance with all PWT policies

Additional Information :

  • A good working knowledge of the local area is an asset
  • Previous transit experience is an asset
  • Selected applicants will be required to participate in a comprehensive recruitment process which consists of interviews, trainability session, medical examination (as required for licensing), drug and alcohol screening, criminal record and reference checks
