Job description

Are you a strategic financial leader looking to make an impact? The Council for the Homeless (CFTH) is seeking a dynamic Controller to join our Senior Leadership team and guide our financial strategies as we work to end homelessness and advance equity in our community.

At CFTH, we are committed to creating a community where everyone has access to safe, affordable housing. As our Controller, you’ll play a pivotal role in guiding our financial vision and strategies, ensuring we have the resources to achieve our mission. The Controller is responsible for overseeing and managing financial affairs ensuring we have an exemplary compliance with regulations, financial stability, and effective allocation of resources. This position also provides training and support to staff especially program leadership.

  • Developing and implementing financial strategies and budgets to support the mission and equity goals.
  • Leading and supervising the finance team and contractors.
  • Providing financial analysis and recommendations to leadership and the Board.
  • Ensuring internal controls to safeguard assets and compliance with GAAP/FASB.
  • Overseeing payroll, accounting functions, and financial policies.
  • Managing audits, grants, and funder compliance.
  • Collaborating on grant finances, procurement, and reporting.
  • Overseeing facilities maintenance and collaborate with Housing Initiative, LLC.
  • Supporting fundraising and develop strategies for revenue growth.
  • Partnering with leadership on budgets, performance monitoring, and financial adjustments.
  • Serving as staff liaison to the Board finance committee.
  • Managing banking, cash flow, investments, and risk.

Pay and Benefits

  • A new employee in this position will be paid $110,000 per year. In compliance with the Equal Pay & Opportunities Act, the full salary range for this position is $110,000 - $142,917 per year.
  • Bi-lingual pay differential.
  • Full-time, exempt position. May be required to work a few hours on weekends and holidays when needed.
  • 100% employer-paid medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability insurance for the employee only.

Requirements
  • Strong knowledge of non-profit accounting and governmental grant billings.
  • Experience utilizing QuickBooks, MIP, Sage IntAcct, Financial Edge or similar products.
  • Experience with single audits (Uniform Guidance).
  • At least three years’ experience as a Controller and/or a senior accounting role
  • Experience working with and presenting financials to a finance committee and/or Board of Directors.
  • Experience analyzing data to share information, inform strategic planning and engage in a continuous quality improvement cycle.
  • Works well in a consistently changing and dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across agency teams.
  • Ability to embrace varying cultural experiences and communication differences.
  • Ability to operate a computer and Microsoft Office Suite competency.
  • Supervisory experience.

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

  • Lived experience of homelessness.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a language other than English.
  • Experience with Low Income Housing Tax Credits, HUD financing and federal housing programs.
  • Strong verbal and written communication.
  • Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree in related field.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to automobile required.
