Zurich Canada is hiring an Underwriting Specialist in Construction to analyze and underwrite new and renewal business, using The Zurich Way of Underwriting Framework within delegated authority levels on highly complex assignments, ensuring excellent customer service.

This is a hybrid role.

What you will do:
  1. Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities.
  2. Assess detailed opportunities with key distributors to identify growth potential.
  3. Qualify accounts to match the organization’s appetite and business opportunities.
  4. Make agent, broker, and customer visits with a clear purpose.
  5. Negotiate terms and conditions and close deals.
  6. Cross-sell other lines of business to increase account product density.
  7. Participate in sales team meetings related to assigned brokers or territory.
  8. Manage a qualified list of opportunities 90-120 days before effective date.
  9. Update systems with visit details and account status promptly.
  10. Serve as the main contact for assigned target accounts.
  11. Develop strong broker and client networks within underwritten industries.
  12. Calculate target prices using appropriate underwriting tools.
  13. Analyze risk and measure exposure.
  14. Initiate product development ideas.
  15. Assist in staff training and development.
  16. Provide expertise on coverage issues related to claims and guidelines.
  17. Contribute to the development of underwriting manuals, programs, and guidelines.
  18. Approve facultative purchases.
  19. Lead marketing presentations for new and existing agents/brokers.
  20. Promote Zurich’s products and services to increase market penetration.
  21. Maintain ongoing communication during major project implementations.
  22. Diagnose and recommend solutions for business and customer problems.
  23. Lead complex, long-term projects to implement new systems, programs, or products.
  24. Research and implement technical solutions meeting customer needs.
Job Qualifications - What you bring:
Required:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent plus 5+ years in underwriting or market-facing roles, or
  • High School Diploma or equivalent plus 10+ years in claims or underwriting support, or
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree plus 3+ years in underwriting or market-facing roles, or
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree plus 8+ years in claims or underwriting support.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Experience working under time constraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
  • Experience working within a team environment.
  • Business writing and presentation skills in both French and English.
Preferred:
  • Over 6 years of experience in Construction Underwriting.
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Fluency in English is required for communication with stakeholders outside Quebec.

Additional Information:

Salary range: $100,000 - $145,000, depending on location, experience, and skills.
