What is the opportunity?
The Associate Director will design, implement and deliver model-driven, statistical or machine learning solutions in collaboration with Data Scientists and Actuaries. You will apply actuarial knowledge and expertise to: develop models used for quantification of mortality and longevity risk, automate and enhance existing processes, derive insights from data, and provide recommendations to RBC Insurance on Pension De-risking Group Annuity & Longevity products. This role will act as an expert consultant in modelling for RBC Longevity Solutions team, designing pension de-risking and longevity solutions as well as building understanding of techniques and technologies in the teams with which they partner.
What will you do?
•Support the development, coding, and implementation of longevity risk models to assess baseline mortality and mortality improvements
•Participate in the review, enhancement and maintenance of existing longevity risk predictive models including application of geospatial/demographic clustering
•Use Axis and Datalink software to properly model and assess the risk
•Ensure extensive model testing to help assess model behavior and risk
•Contribute to research on longevity risk, population mortality, mortality improvements and medical advancements
•Apply actuarial expertise to analyze in-house and external data sources relevant to understanding and predicting mortality experience
•Develop analytical tools to optimize processes for pricing, new business implementation, and experience studies
What will you need to succeed?
Must Have
•Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance or Accounting or equivalent combination of education and experience
•ASA designation
•6 to 8 years of relevant actuarial/insurance experience
•Working knowledge of Python(Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib, SciPy) or R
•Intermediate knowledge of AXIS and Datalink
•Strong analytical, modeling, and creative problem-solving skills
•Good written, oral, and presentation skills to be able to liaise with stakeholders
Nice To Have
•Prior exposure to any one of the following: deep-dive analytics, predictive modelling or artificial intelligence is an asset
•Familiarity with data mining, statistical modeling, and machine learning
•Knowledge of Pension Derisking Products
•Experience with SQL, MS Access, and Tableau
•Solid technical and analytical skills with strong problem solving ability
•Ability to work effectively and independently, and as part of a virtual team
