We are actively seeking to hire a Senior Engineer, Transportation – Halifax.

This role reports to the Transportation Practice Lead and offers opportunities to work on diverse projects, including multi-disciplinary design-bid-build, design-build, and P3 projects. It also involves mentoring EITs and collaborating with project managers, engineers, and technologists.

The candidate will design and manage transportation structure projects, including highways, railways, pedestrian bridges, retaining walls, transit stations, drainage structures, and special projects. Responsibilities include inspection, evaluation, analysis, design, cost estimating, tender preparation, shop drawing review, site visits, and construction oversight.

Key Duties:

  1. Lead preliminary and final designs for major road infrastructure projects, including stormwater management, utility relocation, and property requirements.
  2. Develop designs that meet approval agency requirements, including conservation authorities.
  3. Prepare design drawings using Civil3D and InRoads.
  4. Develop tender documents, reports, and specifications.
  5. Collaborate with internal teams and external consultants to meet project deliverables.
  6. Ensure quality control and assurance in design standards, client requirements, and company quality systems.
  7. Resolve complex construction issues related to constructability, staging, temporary works, and commissioning.
  8. Utilize AutoCAD and MicroStation platforms effectively.
  9. Mentor junior staff and communicate design directions clearly.
  10. Participate in internal and client meetings.

Qualifications:

  1. Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
  2. 10+ years of experience in transportation project design, including quantities and contract specifications.
  3. Active P.Eng designation.
  4. Proficiency in transportation and municipal design.
  5. Experience with grade separations, HOV/BRT lanes, transit facilities, and stormwater management.
  6. Experience with rail infrastructure projects.
  7. Training in Canadian Railway Operating Rules and Track Inspection Guidelines is a plus.
  8. Practical knowledge of construction sequencing and constructability.
  9. Experience with Civil 3D and/or InRoads.
  10. Ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively with clients and stakeholders.
  11. Strong communication skills in English.
