Job description

The Staff Physician, under the direction of the Medical Director, Physician Supervisor, and/or Clinic Manager, is responsible for providing direct patient care services at our Sault Tribe Health Clinics located in the Eastern Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The position assists in maintaining the daily operations of the clinical settings to meet patient medical needs and expectations. The role involves making medical decisions and providing oversight and assistance to nursing personnel within the patient care team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
  • Provides routine and diagnostic medical examinations and treatments.
  • Offers a broad range of medical and health services, including patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment, evaluating care effectiveness, and modifying treatments as necessary.
  • Refers patients to specialists when indicated.
  • Maintains competency and provides care within their scope and accepted standards.
  • Provides guidance and assistance to healthcare personnel involved in patient care.
  • Adheres to privacy guidelines established by HIPAA and other regulations.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES :
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
CONTACTS :

Includes immediate peers, other department peers, supervisors, patients, customers, and outside vendors or service providers.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

Constant standing, walking, hearing, smelling, and vision (near, midrange, far, color, depth perception). Frequent sitting and occasional carrying, lifting, pushing, pulling, stooping, reaching, manual handling, and bending. Exposure to weather conditions, extreme cold, and humidity. Hazards include patient contact, needles, syringes, and medical equipment. Use of personal protective equipment and adherence to universal precautions are required.

REQUIREMENTS :

Education : Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree. Professional certification preferred, such as Family Practice; consideration given to Pediatrics or Internal Medicine certifications.

Experience : No experience required.

Certification/Licensing requirements include a valid license to practice in Michigan, DEA license, BLS or CPR certification, with ACLS preferred. Must pass background and drug tests.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities include the ability to provide primary care, familiarity with outpatient procedures, experience with electronic records, and confidentiality. Native American candidates are preferred.
