Job description

The primary purpose of the Employment Resource Centre (ERC) Assistant is to assist student job
seekers with their job search for part-time or summer positions in the Employment Resource Centre. This
is a front-line position, which requires excellent customer service skills. The position also
requires strong administrative and computer skills; and the ability to develop job search handouts and
marketing materials.

The position may also require occasional crisis intervention and a knowledge of support services
(housing, emergency shelter, food banks etc.) and referral processes. The ERC Assistant will develop
resources and information specific to the student job search and will assist students in the Employment
Resource Centre to find and use those resources. The ERC Assistant will also assist to organize and/or
deliver a series of workshops and employment-related training opportunities. As a collaborative member
of a busy, frontline team, they will ensure that the Centre is adequately staffed at all times and that
customer service meets exemplary standards.

Competencies Required
a. Ability to support youth with their job search in a supportive, solution-focused manner
b. Experience working with youth in a teaching or counselling capacity
c. Advanced working knowledge of YouTube content creation. Expertise with the use of various
social media as outreach and marketing tools.
d. Understand the high school system, credit recovery, and co-operative education system
e. Good understanding of the local labour market and the challenges facing the unemployed
f. Ability to advocate to employers and other service providers, on behalf of individuals requiring
assistance with their job search
g. Must possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work and communicate effectively within
a team environment
h. Must treat all individuals with equal respect and interact in a tactful, supportive, professional
manner
i. Ability to promote confidentiality as a norm
j. Proficiency with computer applications, particularly Microsoft Office suite of programs
k. Ability to research and implement innovative tech-based counselling solutions

Job Requirements

Qualifications
a. Currently enrolled in post-secondary program, preferably in Business Marketing,
Information Technology, Education, Social Work; or combination of education and relevant
work/volunteer experience
b. Experience working with disadvantaged youth, employers, schools, and youth services.
c. Sound knowledge of all facets of job search and career development including current labour market
trends
d. Excellent communication and customer service skills.
e. Strong, confident presentation/facilitation skills both in person and online
f. Proficiency in English is required. Proficiency in French will be considered a definite asset

Work Environment (Equipment, Demands and Hazards)
a. Employment Resource Centre/Office setting with occasional travel to off-site locations within the
KEYS catchment area
b. Professional appearance is required, casual business attire.
c. 28 hours per week: Tues - Fri, 8:00am to 4:00pm with occasional evening hours.
d. Use of office equipment required and software specific to programs.

Start date: June 17, 2025
End Date: August 29, 2025
Wage: $21.65
Hours Per Week: 28 (Tuesday-Friday
