Job description

We are hiring a Chief Engineer!

We are currently seeking a Chief Engineer to join our team at Concord Hospitality's dual-branded Hilton Garden Inn & Homewood Suites Ottawa Downtown. This is an exciting opportunity to apply your expertise in property engineering, leadership, and maintenance.

The Hilton Garden Inn and Homewood Suites by Hilton Ottawa Downtown are located in downtown Ottawa, near Parliament Hill, with easy access to many points of interest via light rail transit. The hotel features 171 extended-stay guest rooms under the Homewood Suites banner and 175 short-stay units under Hilton Garden Inn, along with conference space, a bar, restaurant, pool, and fitness center.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee daily operations of the Maintenance Department and foster a positive work environment.
  2. Collaborate effectively with hotel departments, contractors, and vendors.
  3. Source vendors for parts, equipment, and labor.
  4. Champion hotel sustainability practices.
  5. Participate in the hotel's Health & Safety Committee, ensuring compliance and safety.
  6. Provide high-quality service to guests and set an example for staff.
  7. Schedule, train, motivate, and develop the Maintenance Team; conduct reviews and coaching.
  8. Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs aligned with brand standards.
  9. Manage work order systems, prioritize tasks, and monitor deficiencies.
  10. Manage HVAC systems and appliances.
  11. Ensure adherence to key control policies.
  12. Perform routine maintenance on hotel assets, including grounds, building, and internal equipment.
  13. Maintain pool and spa according to regulations.
  14. Oversee groundskeeping and exterior maintenance.
  15. Develop plans to meet Quality Assurance standards.
  16. Coordinate safety inspections, fire drills, and emergency procedures.
  17. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and building codes.
  18. Conduct quality inspections and manage inventory, budgeting, and certifications.
  19. Respond promptly to emergency maintenance requests.
  20. Adhere to hotel policies to maintain brand standards.
  21. Perform other duties as assigned by the General Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in hospitality.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Flexibility to work weekends and holidays.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
