The Role

We are seeking Computer Support Specialists to support our Client Service Centre. The ideal candidate shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect, and Creativity.

As a Computer Support Specialist, you will work as part of the Field Support Team within the NRC-Client Service Centre (NRC-CSC), providing IT support services for distributed computers, mobile, and audio-visual equipment in Research Centres, Branches, and IRAP of NRC. Some centres may require support for servers and networking appliances. You will source, implement, and troubleshoot hardware and software services provided to clients.

You will also assist IT team members in improving operational efficiency, create, edit, and maintain documentation, support software, and provide IT assistance to users using desktop and management tools. Skills specific to research environments and corporate environments are valued.

Screening Criteria

Applicants must demonstrate the following criteria in their application for further consideration:

Education

  • College diploma in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from a recognized university is considered an asset.
  • Consideration may be given to candidates with significant experience and a High School diploma.

Experience

  • At least 3 years of experience providing desktop and technical support to users locally and remotely in a Windows environment, including support for MS Office, TCP/IP, etc.
  • Experience using service management applications to manage events, incidents, service requests, assets, and documentation of knowledge.
  • Experience supporting Microsoft desktop operating systems (Windows 10 and 11), including imaging software.
  • Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining desktop hardware, software, and peripherals.
  • Experience supporting Linux and Mac OS is an asset but not required.
  • Experience supporting servers/VMs and networking equipment is an asset but not required.

Condition of Employment

Reliability Status: Verification of background information over 5 years is required.

Language Requirements: Various linguistic profiles. Details on language requirements and self-assessment tests are available.

Assessment Criteria

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing according to the position’s language requirements.
  • Problem-solving skills for troubleshooting IT devices.
  • Knowledge of service management platforms such as Axios Assyst, Infoman, Altiris, Footprints, etc.
  • Knowledge of ITIL core processes like Incident Management, Service Request Fulfillment, Knowledge Management, and Asset Management.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
  • Solid knowledge of Windows 10 and 11, MS Office, basic MAC OS, Linux, TCP/IP protocols.
  • Analytical and conceptual ability (Level 2), results orientation (Level 2), self-development (Level 2).

Competency Profile: The NRC evaluates candidates using the Technology Support profile.

Compensation: From $84,807 to $105,949 per annum. NRC offers comprehensive benefits including pension, health, dental, disability, and life insurance, along with other supports for well-being.
