Most of our solutions are related to Energy Transition and carbon reduction industries.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Startec Compression & Process is currently recruiting a Benchfitter to work at our Shepard Shop (9423 Shepard Rd SE, Calgary, AB, T2C 4R6). The Benchfitter is a crucial role responsible for fabricating piping systems in an industrial fabrication setting, specifically working on compression and processing equipment packages. Reporting to the Spooling Supervisor, this person will read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and diagrams to determine the layout and configuration of the piping systems. They will use their expertise to interpret blueprints and fabricate piping systems for the pressure welders. Safety is paramount in this role, and the successful candidate must adhere to all relevant codes and regulations while maintaining a clean and organized work area.
Shift Details: 4:30 p.m. - 2:30 a.m.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Journeyman Pipefitter certification or equivalent is preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a bench fitter, demonstrating proficiency in fabrication techniques.
  • Alberta B-pressure ticket would be considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with various pipe materials/grades.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex piping issues.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and practices related to pipefitting/bench fitting/fabrication work.
  • Good physical condition and stamina to perform manual labour and work in various conditions.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI):
PIPE FABRICATION (Weighting 80%)
  • Read and interpret company and customer-supplied drawings and specifications.
  • Produce spools and spool sections according to Isometric Drawings.
  • Alignment and tack welding of spools and spool sections.
  • Flame cutting with bevelled and hand torches.
  • Rigging of spools, Overhead crane and Jib crane operation.
  • Maintain shop equipment.
  • Display a high level of craftsmanship while providing an efficient workflow.
COMPLIANCE (Weighting 20%)
  • Verify pipe dimensions, alignments, and quality to meet project standards and specifications.
  • Conduct inspections to ensure piping system integrity and performance.
  • Maintain records for quality assurance.
  • Adhere to safety protocols, including PPE use, lockout/tagout, and compliance with regulations.
  • Follow relevant codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Perform risk assessments and implement hazard mitigation measures.
  • Stay updated with industry best practices and safety guidelines.
