We are seeking an experienced, hands-on and proactive Project Accountant to join our Atlantic project accounting team. The successful candidate will be responsible for cost-controlling major projects and supporting the project accounting team to ensure efficient handling of financial and administrative project tasks.

What You Will Be Working On
  • Cost control for major construction projects. Scope includes processing AP subtrade progress claims, account reconciliation, ensuring subcontracts are executed and compliance documents have been received, overseeing supplier costs, and preparing project accruals.
  • Manage release of subcontractor payments.
  • Work with Project Managers to ensure that all costs are recorded monthly, and all projects are billed monthly, which includes preparing monthly AR invoices and backup as directed by Project Managers.
  • Monitor AR report and prepare weekly aged AR report with comments for Management.
  • Meet month-end and quarter-end deadlines. Support the District Accountant with project P&Ls, quarter-end close, and financial reporting and analysis as required.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement changes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Support other administrative tasks as needed; facilitate collaboration among team members to achieve common goals.
  • Providing technical assistance to team members as well as supporting team members in their development within the organization.
What We Are Looking For
  • Educational background in Accounting or Finance.
  • Proven experience in construction project accounting.
  • Demonstrate logical problem-solving skills to independently find solutions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook). Knowledge of other software applications such as Viewpoint/InEight/Prophix or OnBase considered an asset.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent attention to detail and self-motivated.
