The Crisis Response Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of day-to-day operations of the program. The Coordinator will offer supervision / support / guidance to the Crisis Response Team / Contractors who are providing counselling and intervention, crisis management, group debriefing etc. The Coordinator along with all K.O. Health staff works in close collaboration with community leadership, all community resources, and assists in capacity building.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the direction of the K.O. Mental Health Supervisor, the Crisis Response Coordinator is responsible for :
- Provide overall case management and coordination to the Crisis Response Team and to the contractors / service providers that are working in communities during crisis situations.
- Be available for on-call services for mental health and crisis situations.
- Assisting in the establishment of goals, objectives, policies, procedures and systems for all operational areas of the above-mentioned program.
- Assisting in the development and implementation of long-term plans.
- Assisting in monitoring and evaluating the program budget.
- Ensuring implementation of quality assurance strategies.
- Participating in the selection, orientation, training, and supervision of all program staff.
- Planning and coordinating daily work assignments and operations.
- Resolving problems, both administrative and operational.
- Serving as liaison between the program and other organizations; as well as building strong partnerships and strategic alliances.
- Working with communities to continue to design and implement the program.
- Applying First Nations culture, values and traditions and teachings into policy and programming where possible.
- Working with program staff to ensure quality case management, client care and services are provided.
- Promote the development of counselling skills / approaches though training, evaluations, and feedback. Creating best practices / developing creative interventions to help clients.
- Gathering and reporting data for fiscal, statistical and analysis purposes.
- Maintaining the strictest confidentiality of clients.
- Coordinating and scheduling of staff and service professionals.
- Receiving and responding to clients’ complaints.
- Maintaining inventory of all program supplies.
QUALIFICATIONS
- The minimum level of education acceptable is equivalent to completion of a university program (Bachelor’s degree) in a mental health, health, social, or related discipline.
- Additional mental health or crisis response related training is an asset. Must have an understanding of the principles and concepts associated with mental health education.
- Demonstrated ability of design, implementation and management of health programs and services.
- Knowledge, analytical skills, and experience in the field of Indigenous mental health and / or crisis response.
- Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team, case conferencing, ongoing evaluation of service delivery, addressing gaps in service delivery and implementing change as required bettering servicing the clients and community members.
- Experience working with complex cases, concurrent disorders, trauma, high-risk behaviours etc.
- Sound knowledge of Indigenous culture and diversity and the principal issues affecting the mental health and holistic wellness of First Nations children, families, and communities.
- Sound knowledge of the positive traditional influences that could promote mental health and wellness of First Nations children.
- Developing and maintaining respectful, cooperative working relationships with children, families, communities, and service workers to promote an integrated, seamless delivery of service.
- Ability to understand or speak one of the NAN First Nations languages would be considered an asset.
- Ability to take initiative, be adaptable, muti-task, meet deadlines and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Effective written and oral communication skills, problem solving, advocacy and assessment skills.
- Satisfactory Criminal Records Search and Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Ability to work on an on-call basis.
- Some travel to remote communities, and other sub-office locations required.
