The South Shore Regional Centre for Education (SSRCE) practices a culturally responsive pedagogy approach, providing an inclusive, diverse, equitable, safe, and healthy education that supports both personal and academic success for the 59,000 residents of Lunenburg and Queens Counties. This area spans 5,250 square kilometres and includes 23 schools.

Job Description

The Junior High French Resource Teacher is responsible for teaching and supporting students within the SSRCE. The teacher will work within the Inclusive Education Policy framework, participating in individualized program planning with school staff and families to maximize learning experiences for students.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Valid Nova Scotia Teacher Certification
  • Bachelor of Education - Secondary
  • University education in French OR a minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching at least 50% Core French, French Immersion, or Intensive French within the last five (5) years, with positive performance appraisals and/or references
  • Minimum OPI Rating of Advanced
  • Masters of Education in Special or Inclusive Education
  • French Immersion training
  • Experience teaching Core French, French Immersion, or Intensive French
  • Professional development in Program Support
  • Experience teaching Program Support
  • Professional development in special or inclusive education
  • Experience teaching grades 6-8
  • Excellent communication skills (written, oral, electronic)
  • Ability to collaborate with school and inter-agency teams for early intervention, service coordination, and program planning
  • Proven team player in school program planning and multidisciplinary teams
  • Knowledge of culturally responsive pedagogy
  • Current understanding of developmental trauma and its impact on learning and social engagement
  • Willingness to engage in ongoing professional development
  • Ability to develop, implement, and monitor individualized programs and strategies based on student needs
  • Ability to employ non-violent crisis intervention techniques
  • Capability to demonstrate teaching strategies and coach staff
  • Maintain confidentiality as standard practice
  • Experience in planning training and professional development for students with behaviors of concern
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse cultural and racial backgrounds
  • Valuing others' voices and contributions, open to constructive feedback
