Job summary

Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies (FSWC) is a non-profit human rights organization committed to countering racism and antisemitism, and to promoting the principles of tolerance, social justice, and Canadian democratic values through advocacy and education.

The Opportunity

FSWC seeks an experienced Educator to join the education department. As an FSWC Educator, you will lead innovative programming in both in-person and virtual formats for elementary and high school students across Canada.

You will :

  1. Learn our Equity & Diversity student workshops and lead students through these workshops in various formats.
  2. Learn our Tour for Humanity workshops and facilitate these sessions for students.
  3. Contribute to developing new educational programs aligned with FSWC's goals.
  4. Build and maintain educational networks with teachers and community educators for ongoing engagement.
  5. Foster relationships with survivor communities.
  6. Assist in planning, promoting, and executing educational events.
  7. Support other team members during organizational events like Spirit of Hope Voices of Change.

You are someone with :

  1. Classroom teaching experience with the ability to engage and inspire students across various grade levels.
  2. Strong knowledge of Holocaust and genocide education, with a commitment to combating hate and promoting human rights.
  3. Effective presentation skills suitable for both in-person and virtual interactive learning.
  4. Ontario College of Teachers certification or equivalent, with a solid understanding of curriculum and pedagogy.
  5. A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle for school visits.
  6. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for collaboration with educators, students, and community partners.
  7. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
  8. Proven problem-solving, creativity, and initiative in educational settings.
  9. Flexibility to adapt to evolving educational needs and logistical challenges.
  10. Proficiency with digital platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Classroom.

What you bring :

  1. A passion for teaching about the Holocaust, genocide, and human rights, with a grounding in both history and contemporary issues.
  2. Bachelor’s degree in history, education, or a related field.
  3. Experience teaching elementary and/or high school students with age-appropriate pedagogy.
  4. Willingness to travel across Canada, including early mornings and trips, to reach diverse student audiences aged 8 to 18.
  5. French language skills are a strong asset.
