Continuing Professional Development (CPD) develops and provides accredited professional development workshops for faculty, staff, graduate students, and postdoctoral scholars, as well as continuing medical education programs for practicing physicians and allied health professionals in South Western Ontario and nation-wide, CPD supports programs and departments in the assessment of educational needs, and in the design, development, and accreditation of educational programs to meet identified educational gaps.

Responsibilities

The Education Developer is primarily responsible for planning, developing and implementing CME/CPD activities for practicing physicians, supported by an effective system of documentation utilizing an organized curriculum design process. Appropriate assessment of current practice, patient/population health and health care system issues is important in ensuring that learning activities help participants enhance their practices. The Education Developer supports faculty at the department level to assess educational needs of target learners, and in the design and evaluation of learning activities.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Master's Degree in Adult Education or Health Sciences
  • Master's Degree in Adult Education with concentration in Instructional Design or e-Learning preferred

Experience:

  • 2 years' experience designing online and traditional classroom-based continuing medical educational initiatives for healthcare professionals in a hospital, healthcare-related association, continuing health education agency or freelance setting

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of current theories and practices in Adult Education
  • Strong facilitation skills with an ability to influence, motivate and inspire
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and confidence dealing with all levels of an organization
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and problem solving skills including experience formulating and executing action plans, and an ability to work well in an environment with some ambiguity and uncertainty
  • Proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple and diverse tasks
  • Proven ability to take initiative and in-depth knowledge of how to champion a project from conception through implementation and evaluation
  • Self-driven, independent thinker who is highly motivated and possesses an intrinsic passion for quality
  • Demonstrated collaboration skills including building and maintaining lasting relationships with key internal faculty and external partners
  • Ability to handle diverse situations, multiple and complex projects and rapidly changing priorities
  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office; some working knowledge of e-learning software and systems, including technologies used for synchronous online education
  • Flexibility to work outside of regular business hours and travel on occasion; Access to own vehicle and driver's licence are required
  • Ability and willingness to stay abreast of medical and technological developments
  • Commitment to ongoing learning and professional development
  • Knowledge of Western's policies, as well as research and financial environments would be preferred
