Your opportunity :

The BMO Financial Group Finance Research and Trading Lab is a high-tech facility that enables students, faculty and staff to interact with the global financial community and its resources in a real-time setting. This state-of-the-art multi-function laboratory creates new opportunities for training, teaching, research, product and curriculum development. The FRT-Lab provides a focal point for research and training in a range of financial disciplines including : investment strategy and portfolio management; financial engineering and risk management; trading; and, analysis of the microstructure of markets.

As the Educational Developer, you will be responsible for developing, delivering and evaluating an engaging and effective learning solution to support our experiential learning initiatives and curriculum.

Your responsibilities will include :

  • Developing and implementing components of instructional programs
  • Editing program and service materials
  • Researching curriculum and program trends and writing summary reports for instructors
  • Developing content for instructional workshops
  • Facilitating educational workshops and seminars
  • Collecting data to support faculty research
  • Delivering presentations to promote programs, opportunities and / or initiatives

Essential Qualifications :

  • Master's Degree in Finance, Economics, Applied Statistics, or related discipline; or acceptable combination of equivalent education and experience
  • Minimum five (5) years recent and related experience
  • Experience in applied statistics (multivariate models and distributions, jump processes, inference), e.g. simulation tools such as Monte Carlo
  • Experience with data analysis and modeling
  • Demonstrated understanding of capital market theory, portfolio management, and market microstructure
  • Experience or interest in financial markets
  • Experience soliciting and interpreting requirements from end users (faculty, etc.) for development or enhancement of custom products and services
  • Quantitative finance and requisite data and optimization skills
  • Coding proficiency, e.g. Python, VBA, MS Excel (or any other object-oriented language)
  • Knowledge of Application Program Interfaces (API)
  • Proactive and self-motivated to initiate activities without specific instruction
  • Expert in prioritization and value delivery, good judgment and decision-making skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; teamplayer
  • Good work ethic and ability to work in an active learning space with distractions and interruptions
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to present / instruct / demo in front of UofT stakeholders and develop offline tutorial videos
  • May require extended or unusual working hours based on program support and business needs

Assets (Nonessential) :

  • Knowledge of best practices using real-time financial data, such as data mapping
