Job summary

Foothills School Division is seeking Educational Assistants to support students with mild to severe needs within the school environment. Full-time hours follow the school calendar, typically about 32.5 hours weekly, Monday to Friday. Successful candidates will work under teachers and learning coaches to provide flexible, student-centered support and promote independence in development. Applicants must be prepared for a Criminal Record Check and have the necessary educational credentials.

Qualifications

• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to multi-task in a busy school team environment.
• Experience with students with diverse physical, cognitive, social, and emotional needs is preferred.
• Preferred applicants will have an Educational Assistant Certificate.

Job description

Foothills School Division is currently seeking Educational Assistants to provide physical, social, emotional, behavioral and learning support to students/children identified with mild, moderate and/or severe needs in a variety of settings within the school environment.

Full-time hours follow the school year calendar Monday to Friday averaging approximately 32.5 hours per week.

The successful candidate will have the ability to work with minimal supervision under the direction of the classroom teacher and learning coach. They will provide flexible support to students/children according to their changing needs and to facilitate and encourage independence in all areas of student/child development.

The Education Assistant will establish effective working relationships with teachers, parents and the community. A strong background and expertise working with students with a wide range of physical, cognitive, social and emotional differences including:

• Autism Spectrum Disorder
• Trauma
• Down Syndrome
• medically fragile
• mild, moderate and severe intellectually delayed
• ADHD
• self-care personal assistance

Experience working with students with complex needs that includes collaboration with educational support teams and therapists, such as SLP, OT, and Behavioral Consultants is an asset. Pay Grid Level I - High School Diploma
Pay Grid Level II (Certified) - Educational Assistant Certificate or Diploma, or a High School Diploma and the equivalent of a minimum of one (1) year of full-time post secondary course study.

Successful candidates cannot begin without a satisfactory Criminal Record Check completed within the last 6 months. Start dates will be dependent on providing FSD with the required documentation.
