Job summary

Prairie Valley School Division invites applications for the Educational Assistant I position at Balcarres Community School. This temporary full-time role provides 6 hours and 10 minutes per day on school days, with an anticipated start ASAP and ending December 18, 2026, or upon return of incumbent.

The role supports students with intensive needs across personal care, academic support and behavioural guidance, working under the direction of school staff to promote engagement and success.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 or equivalent.
• Educational Assistant Certificate or Diploma, First Aid/ CPR/AED training, specialized training for diverse abilities.
• Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training.
• Transfer, Lift and Repositioning training.
• Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
• Ability to lift up to 30 lbs and maintain privacy.

Responsibilities

• Provide personal care to students to maintain dignity and independence.
• Assist and coach students to develop daily-life skills and prepare for life after high school.
• Support learning with small group or one-on-one reinforcement as directed by teachers.
• Document progress in the Inclusion and Intervention Plan and participate in conferences.
• Promote positive behaviour and social interactions per Safety and Behaviour Plans.
• Collaborate with the student’s team to ensure learning in the least restrictive environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the School Administrator.
