Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) is one of the largest school divisions in Alberta, serving approximately 17,950 students across 42 schools. We are recruiting a full-time Educational Assistant to support diverse student needs in specialized programs such as GOALS, Focus, and SEAS at F.R. Haythorne Junior High, located in Sherwood Park, AB.

F.R. Haythorne Junior High serves about 580 students in grades 7-9, with a dedicated staff committed to high academic and behavioral standards, emphasizing character education, citizenship, and leadership.

Position Details:

  • Start date: August 27, 2025
  • Hours: 31.25 per week (Monday to Friday, 6.25 hours/day)
  • Open to internal and external applicants; priority to permanent employees

Program Descriptions:

  • SEAS Program: Supports students with severe emotional or behavioral disorders through high structure, intensive supports, and close supervision.
  • GOALS Program: Aims to improve academic and independent living skills for students with mild cognitive disabilities.
  • Focus Program: Supports students with neuropsychiatric or mental health diagnoses, emphasizing social and academic development in a structured environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist teachers with instructional and non-instructional tasks
  • Work with individual students or groups within specialized programs
  • Support students in acquiring skills and following individualized learning plans
  • Provide personal care and additional assistance as needed

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • Educational Assistant Certificate or equivalent (asset)
  • First Aid, Crisis Intervention, and courses related to special needs (assets)
  • Minimum one year of related experience

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Reliability, teamwork, and technology proficiency
  • Sensitivity to diversity and ability to handle challenging behaviors
  • Experience with mental health, behavioral support, and cognitive delays
  • Knowledge of student learning competencies and crisis strategies

Note: The role may involve physical demands such as lifting up to 50 lbs. and responding to challenging behaviors.
