Job Description: Full-Time Educational Assistant / Special Needs Aide

At the Waldorf School, we offer a holistic approach to education that seeks to educate the head, the heart, and the hands of the child through an arts-rich curriculum, time in nature, and an academically rigorous program. The special needs assistant is a companion to the child in the classroom, guiding and supporting children with loving authority, providing positive boundaries, a predictable rhythm, and encouraging healthy interactions within the school community.

Qualifications
  • Experience working with children with special needs.
  • Desire to support the educational, emotional, physical, and social needs of children in a classroom setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; approachable for students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Excellent conflict resolution skills, resilience, and adaptability.
  • Willingness and proven ability to work within a community environment.
  • Current CPR and criminal record check, including vulnerable sector screening.
  • Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) training.
Hours and Duration

The special needs aide must be present during all classes and available for all professional development and teacher prep days, as well as weekly faculty meetings as required.

Salary & Benefits

We offer a competitive salary. Benefits include personal/sick days, Waldorf training support, and a health benefits program for FTE of 0.5 or above.

Responsibilities
  • Provide one-on-one supervision and support for a special needs student, including documentation such as daily behavior reports.
  • Assist the Class Teacher with lesson preparation, delivery, and evaluation.
  • Support class supervision and student support alongside the Class Teacher.
  • Assist in preparing for at least three Parent Evenings annually.
  • Participate in open houses, school events, festivals, outings, and class trips as needed.
  • Supervise outdoor activities, recess, lunch, morning duties, and on-call assignments.
  • Willing to pursue additional training as needed.
  • Contribute to creating a nurturing, community-focused environment aligned with the WISE School philosophy and policies.

All staff are guided by the WISE Agreement, Faculty Handbook, and Codes of Conduct, aligning with Waldorf principles and administrative responsibilities.
