EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANT

ASD COUNTY CLASS ASSIGNMENT

PERMANENT PART-TIME (Afternoons)

Educational Assistants provide support to students to achieve success in academic, behavior, social, life skills, and co-op situations. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, Educational Assistants contribute to the learning development and integration of all students by creating a safe and supportive environment.

Educational Assistant positions can be physically demanding. Responsibilities may include assisting students with toileting, diapering, feeding, lifting, transferring, positioning, and mobility. Positions may rotate through the school to meet the needs of students across multiple groups and grade levels.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications for all Educational Assistant (EA) positions:

  • A relevant university degree or a two-year college diploma in the human services field (e.g., Behavioural Sciences related to ABA, Child and Youth Worker, Child Care Worker, Developmental Service Worker, Early Childhood Education, Educational Assistant Special Needs Support, Human Services Administration, Registered Nurse, Sign Language Communicator, Sign Language Interpreter, Social Service Worker, or an Ontario Teaching Certificate).
  • Most positions require Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) training, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and the ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team.

Special Details for This Position:

  • Required: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) County Class.
  • BMS training is required.
  • Experience working with students with ASD.
  • This is a physically demanding role involving toileting, lifting, and implementing behaviour management plans.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn.
  • Experience with data tracking and positive reinforcement techniques is an asset.

This position includes an additional annual compensation of $2442.10, prorated based on FTE. Acceptance of this role commits the employee for two years.

Participation in the OMERS Pension Plan is mandatory for all full-time permanent employees, even if currently receiving an OMERS pension.
