An established industry player is seeking a passionate Education Specialist to manage and enhance educational programs at a local museum. This part-time role involves developing engaging, age-appropriate programs for visitors and schools, while also promoting the museum's events through social media. Under the direction of the GAR Curator, the GAR Education Specialist will manage the museum’s educational programs and camps. The Education Specialistwill develop and prepare age-appropriate programs to present to visitors onsite and in schools. This position will also focus on growing the social media presence of the museum and promote events.
The duties of this position will include but are not limited to : Conduct research to develop educational programming about Aurora and the United States military; Plan, develop, and lead age-appropriate educational programs and camps for visitors onsite and in schools; Work with visiting schools to ensure the logistics and delivery of programming; Assist in the continuing improvement of existing programs; Promote the museum and events to the public utilizing social media, printed materials, and other methods; Assist with the daily operations and upkeep of the museum; Other duties as assigned.
This position requires an associate’s degree; bachelor’s degree in American History, Museum Studies, or an education related field is preferred. This position also requires at least one (1) year experience working in a museum or similar role. Must possess a valid IL driver’s license, the ability to travel to local schools, and the ability to obtain a Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) Card.
Must successfully pass pre-hire requirements including but not limited to a physical, drug screen, and background check.
This is a part-time, non-exempt position; approximately 18 - 20 hours per week. Hours are flexible and may include evenings and / or weekends. Starting hourly wage is $20.47 / hr.
