Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in Educational Psychology, School Psychology, Language and Literacy Education, Applied Linguistics, or related discipline.
  • Experience teaching Family Literacy, Home-School Literacy Partnerships or Literacy and Families courses at undergraduate level.
  • Demonstrated expertise in literacy development and family engagement practices.
  • Teaching documentation: portfolio with evaluations, references or dossier; ability to work independently; curriculum development involvement.
  • Skills in web-based pedagogical techniques and common office software (Word, Excel) and multimedia tools.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare lectures, conduct class instruction, and provide student consultation.
  • Marking, grading, and course administration including grade appeals and academic integrity handling.
  • Develop and update course materials and relevant assessments.
  • Collaborate on curriculum development and contribute to implementation of teaching methods.
  • Utilize Brightspace/D2L and other tools to support student learning.

Job Title: Education Instructor Course Code: EDUC 3P40 Title of Course: Family, Schools, and Literacy Department & Program: Department of Educational Studies & Undergraduate Educational Studies Duration of Appointment: January 1, 2027-April 30, 2027 Online or Physical Location: LEC Day(s) of the Week: Wednesday 5:00PM-7:00PM Compensation: Effective September 1, 2025 - $36.03 per nominal hour Effective September 1, 2026 - $37.11 per nominal hour The above rates do not include vacation pay. Vacation pay shall be in accordance with Article 16.02. Nominal Hours of Appointment: 195 Please Note: Positions listed on this posting are subject to course enrolments and budgetary approval. As per Article 12.08 of the Collective Agreement: Members shall not accept any appointment which, taken together with all other appointments at the University, would cause the member to exceed the maximum number of regular hours (i.e., not overtime hours) allowable in a work week under the Employment Standards Act, as amended from time to time. The Brock University and Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 4207-5 Collective Agreement governs part-time Education Instructors in the Faculty of Education. Duties

The duties and nominal hours for Education Instructors are established by the employer. The nominal workload is normally made up of scheduled contact time with students as well as non-contact time. This includes but is not limited to preparation of lectures, class instruction, student consultation, marking and grading, and course administration, including grade appeals and cases of academic dishonesty.

Qualifications
  1. 1. Doctoral Degree (PhD, EdD) in Educational Psychology, School Psychology, Language and Literacy Education, Applied Linguistics, or a related discipline
  2. 2. Experience teaching Family Literacy, Home-School Literacy Partnerships or Literacy and Families courses at the undergraduate level
  3. 3. Demonstrated expertise in literacy development, family engagement, family literacy practices and culturally responsive literacy practices
  4. 4. Teaching documentation: evidence of teaching competence at the undergraduate university level, official student and peer evaluations; teaching dossier; and/or references. Ability to work independently without immediate direct supervision. Active participation in curriculum development; sharing of responsibilities in careful test preparation; student assessment; prompt and accurate marking
  5. 5. Skills related to the incorporation of web-based pedagogical techniques, materials and resources in the teaching of the course, as required. Competence in the use of email, Brightspace/D2L, internet, common office software (e.g. Word, Excel) and multi-media equipment
