Job Title: Instructor, Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (Honours)

Title of Course: Indigenous Culture and Early Childhood Education

Semester & Duration: Fall/Winter D1 ASYNC SEC 1 Asynchronous Online

Target Hire Date: September 1st to April 30th, 2026

Overview: Introduction of the culture of a selected Indigenous Society to early childhood educators.

Note. This course is delivered asynchronous online.

Duties

  • As per standing instructor positions at Brock, instructors are responsible for student contact time and non-contact time:
    • Contact time includes all classes as scheduled including in-person, blended, online or other teaching formats. Non-contact time may include preparation of course material, student consultation, marking or grading, holding office hours, managing and meeting with teaching assistants or marker/graders, and course administration as may be required
  • Use of a provided Brock email address for all Brock-related communications
  • Complete the compulsory Brock instructor online tutorial prior to the first class (about 1 hour).
  • Attend Bachelor of ECE program meetings (typically two virtual meetings per term)
  • Commitment to responsible time management (e.g. course structuring and management, punctuality for course material posting, student feedback)
  • Thoughtful and careful preparation of student assessment; prompt and accurate marking and grading
  • Available for student support (e.g., individual meetings, office hours—1.5 hours per week)

Qualifications

Graduate degree (Master’s, PhD or ABD) in Early Childhood Education or Indigenous Studies with a focus on education) or equivalent Indigenous knowledges. Teaching experience in early childhood education or Indigenous studies or related subject at the post-secondary level (face-to-face and online teaching modes) Experience working with young children (birth to 8 years) in education and care settings, or other related setting (e.g., child and family services, research, recreation/leisure). Personal background with and knowledge of Turtle Island Indigenous culture and issues (i.e., Turtle Island Indigenous history and educational policy affecting Turtle Island Indigenous students, families, and communities). Advanced digital skills (e.g., Microsoft 365 suite, academic search engines, digital platforms) Skills related to incorporation of digital pedagogy, curation of materials and resources for asynchronous learning Experience and competence in Learning Management Systems (e.g., Moodle, Brightspace/D2L). Ability to work independently without immediate direct supervision Team member, able to work well with others toward a common goal
