Job summary

Crofton House School in Vancouver is seeking an Education Assistant for the Junior School (Primary Program) on a full-time fixed-term contract for 2026–2027. The role supports teachers in Grade 1–3 and fosters a student-centered, inquiry-based learning environment with opportunities for professional growth.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Education or Education Assistant credential preferred.
  • 1–3 years experience with children in an educational setting.

  • Experience supporting early literacy and numeracy development.
  • Awareness of learning styles of young girls.
  • Demonstrated ability to be innovative, flexible, and highly organized with attention to detail.

  • Willingness to participate in co-curricular program and school community.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with teachers to organize enriching programs for Grade 1–3.
  • Support individuals and small groups requiring extra attention.
  • Assist with IEP or SBSP guidance following teacher input.
  • Work with teachers to implement strategies for individual needs.
  • Document student progress and behavior clearly to identify triggers and interventions.
  • Attend regular learning team meetings among educators.
  • Support creation of inquiry-based learning environments.
  • Assist teachers with tasks and material preparation.
  • Supervise transitions, lunch, and outdoor play.
  • Participate in after-school care and co-curricular programs.
  • Support school events such as Public Speaking, Sports Day, and concerts.

Crofton House School is seeking an experienced education assistant to work alongside teachers in the primary program. You will be part of a collaborative teaching team supporting the positive growth and development of young girls in the Junior School. Teaching and learning are guided and enhanced by the principles of a student-centred, collaborative approach with an inquiry-based focus to deepen learning for young students.

Responsibilities
  • Work in collaboration with teachers to organize enriching programs with a focus on primary classrooms (Grade 1 -3)
  • Support individual and small groups of learners who require additional attention to navigate the school day (eg. in areas including social, emotional, executive functioning and academic support)
  • Assist individual students as outlined in an Individual Education Plan (IEP) or School Based Support Plan (SBSP) following guidance from classroom teacher and learning resource teacher
  • Work in collaboration with teachers to organise support and strategies in response to individual student needs
  • Provide clear and detailed documentation of student progress and behaviour as a means to determine triggers, patterns and effective interventions
  • Be part of regular meetings about student learning with the full team of educators
  • Support the creation of an inquiry-based learning environment
  • Assist teachers in performing specific tasks and responsibilities
  • Prepare instructional materials and classroom visual displays
  • Supervise children during transitions, at lunch and at play outside
  • Participate in our after-school care and co-curricular program
  • Support school events such as our Public Speaking event, Sports Day and concerts
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Education/ Education Assistant Certificate/Diploma or equivalent an asset
  • 1 - 3 years previous experience working with children in an educational setting
  • Experience supporting a range of learning needs informed by research and best practice in an inclusive classroom setting eg. ADHD, ASD, sensory and regulation needs
  • Experience supporting early literacy and numeracy development
  • Awareness of the learning styles of young girls
  • Demonstrated ability to be innovative, flexible, highly organized with attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Energy, commitment, and readiness to participate in the co-curricular program and the diverse life of the school community
Employment and Application Details

Classes begin in September 2026 following teacher orientation in late August 2026.

Annual compensation: $46,000 - $52,000.
