Qualifications

• Ability to work with limited supervision and/or within a complex team environment.
• Ability to manage personal behaviour to influence positive outcomes and de-escalate distress.

• Provide trauma-informed care with respect and empathy.

Responsibilities

• Participating in Individual Educational Planning and school team meetings as requested.
• Follow all student safety plans and support with classroom activities.
• Provide instructional, behaviour management and record-keeping support.
• Assist in adapting classroom materials.
• Support student independence using appropriate accommodations.
• With training, assist with delivery of medical, occupational, physical, and speech therapies as prescribed.
• May supervise students on school outings.
• Assist with development and maintenance of community work placements for students with special needs.
• Assist students with personal care needs as outlined by health professionals.
• Utilize assistive technologies (Microsoft 365 accessibility features, Kurzweil, Clicker 5, Co-Writer, Dragon Naturally Speaking, etc.).
• Promote independence for all learners and support group activities in the classroom.
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all staff/student information.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
