Job description

BiinjitiwaabikZaagingAnishinaabek(BZA) First Nation is seeking a highly motivated person to join the Spirit Bay School Team as an Education Assistant. The expectation of this role would be to provide our student population with support and assist teaching staff with non-instructional tasks as needed or assigned by the principal. An Education Assistant can expect to assist in areas of personal care, teaching, and behavior management under the supervision of teachers or other childcare professionals.

Duties:
  1. Assist students with integration into the classroom and school setting.
  2. Help students individually or in small groups with assignments and reinforce learning and retention concepts under the supervision of the classroom teacher.
  3. Assist students with special needs using techniques such as sign language, braille and remedial programs.
  4. Monitor and report student progress to classroom teacher.
  5. Accompany and supervise students during activities in school gymnasiums, laboratories, libraries, resource centres and on field trips.
  6. May assist teacher in the operation of projectors, tape recorders and other audio-visual or electronic equipment.
  7. May assist in school library or office and perform other duties assigned by the school principal.
  8. May monitor students during recess, at noon hour or during the day.
